A police station, headquarters of the ruling party of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali have been destroyed along with expensive homes, one of which belongs, according to residents, to a relative of the Head of State.
"Death to Ben Ali, " was written on a wall near the residence of the Tunisian president, located on the Corniche, which was completely ransacked. In the street, many barricades were built by passersby while others were looting shops, carrying everything they could lay their hands on.
The looting began after a peaceful march in this tourist town, which has dozens of hotels, and after the funeral of a receptionist at one of these establishments, Zouhair Souissi, who was killed Wednesday by gunfire from the police.
