Belgium - Secretary of state prepares royal decree prohibiting overflying prisons to reduce the risk of escapes by helicopter.
7sur7
28 Nov2010 - It is already banned now fly some places (industrial complexes, nuclear sites ...) at a height of 300 meters. Under the order Mr. Schouppe, the rule would also apply to prisons. The measure aims to minimize the possibility of escape. It adds to the nets, poles and other trees placed in prisons.
This policy was reinforced after the spectacular escape from the prison of Bruges by Sekkaki Ashraf and two other inmates last year. Due to the political context, it is not certain that the Royal Decree shall enter into force. (Belga)
