Ronchin (North), France: Eight Avis vehicles go up in smoke
cette semaine
Voix du Nord, Saturday, 27.11.2010, 22:35 - A fire broke out Saturday night around 22 hours at an Avis vans hire depot.
Carlos can't believe it. At 21 h 30, he was at the pump to refuel the rented van. "€ 62.80 gasoline," he says. He then parked in the parking lot of the agency Ronchin located rue Jean-Jaures, at the exit of the A1. Then he went home, without having noticed anything unusual.
Less than an hour later he was called by the manager: All vehicles in this car park had just gone up in smoke.
Meanwhile, around 22 hours, firefighters from Lille Malus and Lesquin had been warned by motorists on this major artery. They had to deploy four fireengines to overcome this impressive inferno whose criminal origin is in little doubt. The seven burned trucks and cars were parked in rows on either side of the car park, without any contact between them. Some windows were broken and petrol had apparently been spread widely before the author set it on fire.
Stunned, Hocy Lawrence, the manager, could only see the damage. "I had just made a request to close this space. In recent weeks, the damage to my vehicles was becoming more and more frequent. "
